SAN ANTONIO — La Joya Juarez-Lincoln’s boys soccer team saw its season come to an end Tuesday, falling 1-0 in the Region IV-5A DII finals against Liberty Hill at Comalander Stadium in San Antonio.

The Panthers advance to the Class 5A DII semifinals to take on the winner between Lake Creek and Kingwood Park at a date, time and location to be determined.

Liberty Hill scored the game’s lone goal during the 24th minute, with senior Matthew Spruce taking the ball down the right side before firing a shot for the score.

The 1-0 deficit was familiar territory for the Huskies, trailing by the same score during their previous two playoff games before coming back to win the contest. The rally wouldn’t come this time, however, with the Panthers blanking Juarez-Lincoln to secure a spot in the Class 5A DII state semifinals.

The Huskies finish the season with a 14-9-3 overall record. Their run to the Elite Eight is the furthest since the 2017 season, which ended in a state semifinal appearance.
