EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Hidalgo County Elections Department announced it is hiring poll workers to work the November 5, 2024 Presidential Election, according to the county's news release.

On Sept. 1, 2023, SB 924 went into effect requiring Hidalgo County to secure and obtain a total of 129 polling locations on Election Day. This is an increase of 43 polling locations, compared to the 86 polling locations the Elections Department opened on Election Day during the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election.

“To meet this mandate, our office has secured the number of polling locations needed,” said Elections Administrator Hilda A. Salinas. “Although the polling locations have been secured, in order to open and administer the election under the new law, we need to hire
poll workers.”

Salinas noted the Elections Department will need a total of 1,170 poll workers to work the election.

Poll worker training is required, according to the elections department.

To apply, residents must:

  • Be a registered voter of Hidalgo County.
  • Attend a Poll Worker Training Session (3-4 Hours) before each
    election.
  • Be prepared to work on Election Day, Nov. 5, 2024, from 5:45
    a.m. to approximately 9 p.m.
  • Be non-partisan and neutral when working an election.
