HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Beginning Friday, the Hidalgo County District Attorney and law enforcement will launch their annual Labor Day "No Refusal" initiative.

The campaign will last until Labor Day. The initiative aims to prevent drunk driving. Law enforcement will increase its patrols, and those who refuse breathalyzers will have blood drawn with warrants.

"Labor Day is a time to celebrate with family and friends, but it is also one of the deadliest weekends on Texas roadways due to impaired driving," said District Attorney Toribio "Terry" Palacios. "This campaign is about saving lives. We are proud to stand with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those who choose to drink and drive are held accountable."

Law enforcement officials encourage all residents and visitors to plan by using a designated driver, utilizing rideshare or taxi services, or consider staying overnight if necessary.

The campaign begins at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29 and will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1.
