Hidalgo County constable faces DWI charge after rollover crash

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Hidalgo County Precinct 2 constable is facing a DWI charge following his involvement in a weekend rollover crash near Alice, according to a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety Corpus Christi District.

At approximately 1:22 a.m. Saturday, DPS responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Highway 44, about 15 miles from Alice, Texas.

The car was occupied solely by the driver, identified as Martin Cantu, a constable for the Hidalgo County Precinct 2.

Cantu was taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown. A DPS spokesperson, however, told ValleyCentral that Cantu suffered facial injuries.

Following his release from the hospital, Cantu will face a DWI charge, according to DPS. The case is being taken to the Duval County District Attorney's Office.

This is an ongoing investigation.
