Heroes & Helpers, a cooperative initiative among Target, the United Way of Southern Cameron County, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Brownsville Police Department, brought holiday joy to 40 local elementary school children Wednesday morning
The program kicked off with Target’s contribution of a $1,000 Target GiftCard to support 10 elementary children. Building on this initiative, the United Way of Southern Cameron County, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Brownsville Police Department each contributed an additional $1,000, expanding the program’s reach to include 30 more children.
Through the collaboration, 40 elementary school students from El Jardin Elementary each received a $100 Target GiftCard for their holiday shopping. Making the experience more memorable, the children shopped alongside officers from the Brownsville Police Department and U.S. Customs representatives.
“The Heroes & Helpers program creates a wonderful opportunity for our community partners to come together and support local families,” said Wendy De Leon, president & CEO at United Way of Southern Cameron County. “We’re honored to collaborate with Target and our local law enforcement agencies to help make the holiday season brighter for these deserving children.”
This heartwarming initiative demonstrates the power of partnership between corporate leaders like Target and local community organizations in creating meaningful holiday experiences for Brownsville’s youth, DeLeon stated in a news release.
