HCSO: Woman dead after being run over by angry driver

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A woman is dead after allegedly being run over by a car during an altercation in Edinburg, authorities say.

At 4:52 p.m. Sunday, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance at the 6300 block of Lorena Street in Edinburg.

Authorities say callers reported several individuals fighting on the roadway, with one man reportedly armed with a machete.

Once on the scene, deputies discovered a 20-year-old woman was dead with injuries to her head.

Witnesses told authorities that a man and woman were walking on the road when a vehicle stopped and a verbal altercation ensued between the driver and the people walking.

The driver initially left the scene, only to return, to run over both the 20-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man with his vehicle. 

The 27-year-old man only sustained minor injuries and has been transported to a nearby hospital.

The driver has been located and detained by deputies. HCSO Investigators and Crime Scene Specialists are still gathering information on the scene, speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation.
