HCSO: Man arrested in connection to Edinburg dog dumping video

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The man in a social media post that prompted a search for a family of dogs that were dumped in rural Edinburg has been arrested, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office announced.

A group of animal rescue volunteers underwent a search Monday morning for a paralyzed dog and a family of puppies after a surveillance video showed a man dumping the dogs from the trunk of a vehicle.

Hargill resident David Olivarez, 47, was taken into custody and booked into county jail Wednesday in connection to the incident, authorities say.

Authorities say Olivarez obtained an arrest warrant for animal cruelty non livestock animal abandonment, a class A misdemeanor.

"We like to thank our rescue animal organizations for their assistance. We also would like to remind the public that animal cruelty cases are taken very seriously in Hidalgo County and those individuals responsible for causing harm to animals with be held responsible for their actions," HCSO stated.
