Harlingen woman killed in fatal Mercedes crash

A Harlingen woman is dead after a crash with a Kenworth truck tractor in Mercedes Tuesday morning, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety press release.

At approximately 7:07 a.m., a red Kenworth truck tractor occupied by the driver was traveling westbound on Military Road 281 while a red Mazda 3 was traveling southbound on FM 491 approaching Military Road.

“The driver of the Mazda failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and collided with the Kenworth,” the release said.

Brianna Marie Chavez, 25, died at the scene.

Troopers are further investigating the crash.
