HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Lamar Elementary in Harlingen is accepting donations to help a student and their family who lost all their belongings in a recent house fire.
The fire reportedly occurred just after midnight Thursday on the 18000 block of Cora Ave.
Responding firefighters said the fire initially started at a shed and later spread to the home where the family was sleeping, but escaped just in time.
"The first thing that goes through your mind is, 'Is everybody safe?'" said Rebecca Rodriguez, principal of Lamar Elementary. "You want to be sure that they are, and so once we got confirmation, we just jumped ahead, and that was the biggest relief."
Lamar Elementary is accepting the following donations, all of which will be allocated towards the second-grade student and their family.
