Harlingen PD to host CBA State BBQ Cook-off

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen Police Department will be hosting the annual Champions Barbecue Alliance State BBQ Championship Cook-off.

The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. on June 14 and end at 3:00 p.m. on June 15 at Bass Pro Shops in Harlingen.

"In the years past we've had several different teams come down from all over the places in Texas and participate in this BBQ cook-off," said Joe Gonzalez, Harlingen Police Department Public Information Officer. "It's a four-week competition where you're looking at brisket, ribs, pork butt, chicken and they're going to have some jackpots as well."

The two-day event will include festivities such as concerts, a car show and a kid's BBQ cook-off.

"A new addition to this actual BBQ for us, is there's gonna be a kid's que, so for an additional fee children can go over there and I believe they'll be barbecuing pork chops," said Gonzalez.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Children's Advocacy Centers of Cameron and Willacy Counties.
