Harlingen PD detail stranded car recovery after flood

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen Police Department is clearing up some misconceptions amid the recovery efforts for the city after the historic flood.

As previously reported by ValleyCentral, during the flood multiple vehicles were seen stalled and pulled over on the side of the expressway, frontage roads and city streets. However, not everyone made it to the shoulder to get their vehicle to safety.

In an effort to mitigate danger on the roadway and obstructions, the Harlingen Police Department has contracted 13 towing companies to move these vehicles out of harms way.

Sgt. Larry Moore, spokesperson for the police department, says Harlingen is rotating the towing companies.

Additionally, Moore says vehicles that are safely on the side of the road and not obstructing traffic were left alone to give owners the opportunity to recover their vehicles and not face towing expenses.

Those who are in a flood-affected area and require assistance are asked to call Harlingen PD’s non-emergency number at (956) 216-5940.
