A 23-year-old Harlingen man is dead following a fiery crash with a dump truck.

The crash happened at approximately 8:51 a.m. Tuesday on FM 801 north of Murrow Road in Harlingen, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2020 Kia Sedona driven by Ian Jeremy Rivera was traveling southbound on FM 801 at a high rate of speed while a 2023 Mack TE-6 dump truck was driving northbound on FM 801.

“The driver of the kia failed to give half of the roadway and collided head-on with the Mack,” the release stated. “The Kia engulfed in flames, which caused the Mack’s cab to ignite.”

Rivera died at the scene and the dump truck driver was not transported to the hospital.

DPS continues to investigate the crash.
