Harlingen gears up for mountain bike race at Arroyo trails

HARLINGEN,  Texas (ValleyCentral) — The city of Harlingen is gearing up for Showdown at the Arroyo IV, an annual mountain bike race taking place at the Arroyo trails this weekend.

The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12, at Arroyo Park located at 1101 E. New Hampshire St.

The race, put on by Bicycle World RGV and Valley Off-Road Bicycling Association (VORBA), is part of the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association Fall Texas Cup Series.

"We encourage all our citizens, participants, spectators alike just to come enjoy," said Assistant Parks and Recreation Juan Mendiola III. "You never know if this hobby will become a passion."

Mendiola also encouraged citizens or other associations to reach out to the city's parks and recreation department over ideas on ways to grow biking or similar events in the future.
