HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Dyslexia Therapy Training Center.

On Friday the district celebrated the opening of the first of its kind center within a public school district south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

"This center is open to the community and it's for any educator that wants to become a practitioner or a therapist so they can become credentialed and serve students with dyslexia and reading difficulties," said Shannon Reyna, Dyslexia 504 MTSS Coordinator.

The new center will train teachers to better support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges through hands-on, multisensory language education.

Once accredited, Harlingen CISD will become one in five school districts in Texas to operate an accredited Dyslexia Training Center, according to the district.
