MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Hidalgo County Precinct 4 held a groundbreaking on Wednesday for a critical infrastructure project along N. Rooth Road.

Precinct 4, along with Hidalgo County Irrigation District No. 1, Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1, and the City of McAllen

The scope of work includes the construction of a siphon crossing, which is an underground structure that allows canal and drainage systems to intersect without disrupting water flow.

"It will allow us to expand the bridge that would cross over, which has always been a concern for residents and school buses. The school district has always been concerned with that crossing because it's so narrow," said Commissioner Ellie Torres, Hidalgo County Precinct 4.

The approximate cost of the project is $654,000 with an estimated completion date of late September to early October.
