HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Fuel prices are rising week-over-week across the state, according to AAA Texas. But despite the rise, we are seeing the lowest summer fuel prices since 2021.
This weeks AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch shows the state’s $2.81 average per gallon is nearly a dime higher than this day last week but still 35 cents per gallon on this day last year.
Drilling down a little deeper into this week’s data:
If you’re fueling up in Dallas and Fort Worth, you’re paying an average $2.95 – the highest in the state. In Amarillo, drivers are paying the least at $2.62 per gallon.

Here at home. The average price of gas jumped by nearly a quarter overnight to $2.82. Willacy County had the biggest increase: 42 cents. Followed by Cameron County that saw a 28-cent increase day-over-day.

“Despite modest increases in some metro areas, overall fuel prices remain favorable for summer travel,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Ample supply and relatively stable crude oil prices are helping to keep gasoline more affordable for drivers across the state.”
