Galvan: The case for a seawater desalination plant at Laguna Madre

LAGUNA MADRE, Texas – Laguna Madre Water District wants to hear from voters on plans to build a seawater desalination plant. The vote will take place on May 3. 

Eduardo Salazar, LMWD’s director of finance, has said such a plant would impact utility rates. “Based on our current estimates, utility bills are expected to increase by approximately 25% to 35% once the facility becomes operational in 2028,” Salazar has said. 

The project is slated to cost $72 million. U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez has already secured a $17.5 million grant.

In an interview with Ron Whitlock Reports, Carlos Galvan, general manager for LMWD, says the desalination plant is desperately needed. Veteran broadcaster Ron Whitlock has endorsed the project.
