Funeral services set for SPI drowning victim

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Funeral services for the young girl who drowned while swimming on South Padre Island this weekend have been set.

Anllelith Moreno Solis, 14, was swimming with another teenager Sunday morning when her life was claimed by the sea.

Body of Harlingen teen found on SPI, family confirms

Preliminary reports say the Harlingen CISD Vernon Middle School student was pulled in by a rip current around 7 a.m. Sunday. A group organized by her family and friends found her body on shore around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Her family says Anllelith will be greatly missed by friends and family.

"She was a very energetic girl," the family wrote in a statement. "She loved to play sports, loved track and football. She was very excited about her upcoming XV (Quincenera). She loved school, always joking and laughing. She planned on continuing her education."

Middle school hosts fundraiser for family of teen who drowned at SPI

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday May 22 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will proceed the next day on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ABBA House Church. She will be laid to rest at the Harlingen Combes Memorial Cemetery.
