DONNA, TEXAS ( ValleyCentral ) — Funeral services have been announced for Nubia Bravo, 26, who was fatally shot on Wednesday afternoon at a day care in rural Donna.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, from 1 p.m. to midnight, at Salinas Funeral Home located at 2929 W. Expressway 83, Weslaco. A rosary will follow for Bravo at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
The funeral mass will take place at St Joan of Arc Catholic church at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Sacred Park Cemetery.
On Friday, Neni's Childcare #2, where Bravo was killed by her husband, released the following statement:
"To continue honoring her, we are inviting all local daycares to come together and show their support by joining us with their daycare vans or forms of transportation to accompany her on her final journey to her burial. It would mean the world to us and to our family to see the community of caregivers and centers united in her honor — one final ride surrounded by the same love and dedication she gave to so many children."
At about 2:57 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 shots-fired call at Neni’s Childcare #2 located on the 1200 block of Stites Rd.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra says that responding deputies found Nubia Bravo dead beside her husband, Saul Esquivel, 41, outside the day care.
Guerra says the couple was separated, but it is believed the husband was caught in an affair.
Details provided by Guerra on the events that led up to the fatal shooting state that Esquivel forced his way into the daycare and followed Bravo through the back door, and continuously shot at her.
“Then we believed that he laid next to his wife, and then he took his life. This is a result of domestic violence," Guerra said.
Five children were inside the day care at the time of the shooting.
“No children were hurt, and we believe that they did not witness the shooting, but I’m sure that they heard all the gunshots,” Guerra said.
The investigation is ongoing, but the sheriff’s office says a day care employee who witnessed the shooting helped prevent further harm by following safety protocols.
