Funeral serves to be held today for McAllen Marine killed in accident

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A McAllen native U.S. Marine Corporal who died during an aviation incident will be laid to rest today.

Miguel Angel Maya, 23, died on April 23 at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton in California.

Military officials say Maya was a U/AH-1 Aircraft Avionics Technician with earned accolades including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Mother of Valley Marine mourns son’s death

Maya enlisted as a Marine on April 27, 2020 and died four days before celebrating his fourth year of service.

Maya’s body was received Wednesday morning at the McAllen International Airport.

“The City of McAllen will forever be indebted to him for his integrity, his courage and his service as a U.S. Marine,” the City of McAllen stated in a news release.

Funeral services to honor Maya will take place at noon at the Funeraria Del Angel located on 3611 N. Taylor Rd. in Mission.

The service will be followed by a burial at 1 p.m. where Maya will receive military honors.
