Funeral home stabbing suspect arrested 4 months later

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Four months after a deadly stabbing outside of a funeral home in Brownsville, a primary suspect has been arrested.

Based on newly obtained evidence, Brownsville Police arrested 24-year-old Mauricio Salazar on first-degree murder, according to Brownsville PD.

Officer Abril Luna stated on a live stream from the Brownsville Police Department that Salazar was arrested in Pharr, Texas.

Salazar is accused of stabbing Gerardo Gonzalez Jr, 23, at around 2 a.m. on February 2, 2025, at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home parking lot.
