A Fort Worth man is accused of beating his mother to death during an attempted “exorcism” last week, an arrest affidavit revealed.

Alexander Taylor Valdez, 23, was arrested early Friday after police were dispatched on a welfare check to the 9900 block of Farmers Branch Street in west Fort Worth. Upon police’s arrival, officers found Valdez at the front door of the residence with blood on him and found a deceased woman inside the home.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the victim in the homicide was Valdez’s mother, Teresita Sayson, 58. The affidavit says Valdez told police he was “doing witchcraft to kill my mom” and said “It was an exorcism” as he walked outside of his home, The Star-Telegram reported.

When officers found Valdez, he had blood all over his body and was holding a Bible, according to The Star-Telegram.

The affidavit said police believe Valdez allegedly killed his mother by hitting her in the face with a jewelry box. The Star-Telegram reported that a broken jewelry box with hair lodged in it was found near Sayson’s body.

Valdez allegedly sent a Snapchat message to a group chat showing Sayson’s dead body and a dead dog, the affidavit said. The 911 caller was one of the people in the group chat, The Star-Telegram reported.

Valdez refused to speak with detectives when asked for a formal interview, according to the Star-Telegram. He was in the Tarrant County jail Tuesday on $750,000 bail and faces a murder charge. He did not have an attorney listed in court records.
