Former South Padre Island mayor arrested, accused of solicitation of prostitution

CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Texas Rangers arrested the former South Padre Island mayor on a charge of solicitation of prostitution, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Dennis Stahl was booked into Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center on Monday, jail records show.

A bond amount is not listed in the records.

Stahl previously served as a councilman for South Padre Island before he was elected mayor in December 2017. Stahl resigned as mayor in February 2019.

A DPS spokesperson told ValleyCentral no further information is being released as the case remains under investigation.

An incident report obtained by ValleyCentral reveals that South Padre Island police received a report on Oct. 1 regarding a possible solicitation of prostitution at a restaurant on the 33384 block of State Park Road 100.

Responding officers spoke with a woman who stated that a man attempted to solicit sexual favors, according to the report.
