HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A special dedication took place in Harlingen on Thursday for the late Rio Grande Valley Olympic athlete Bobby Morrow.
The Texas Department of Transportation unveiled the sign, which now names FM 1479 the Bobby Morrow Memorial Highway.
This project was headed by former State Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. He wanted to name Rangerville Road after Morrow since he used to farm in that area.
In attendance was Morrow's daughter, who said her father was a humble man who did not like attention, but hopes this recognition will inspire other local athletes.
"It's not for him, it's to inspire the younger generation to let them know that you can do anything and it doesn't matter where to come from," said Elizabeth Kelton.
Morrow won three gold medals running track at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia.
He died in San Benito on May 30, 2020, at the age of 84.
