Flood damage? FEMA opens recovery centers throughout RGV

5 days ago 61

Days after President Donald Trump issued a disaster declaration for a Rio Grande Valley continuing to recover from the toll of March 27 historic storms, FEMA has opened four recovery centers in the region.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management gave official confirmation Tuesday that the centers will be open seven days a week to provide vital support and recovery assistance, according to multiple news releases.

Here’s where the FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are:

>> Cameron County: Harlingen Convention Center, located at 701 Harlingen Heights Dr.;

>> Hidalgo County: Weslaco EDC located at 275 S. Kansas Ave.;

>> Starr County: Starr County Courthouse Annex, located at 100 N. FM 3167; and

>> Willacy County: Sebastion Community Center, located at 434 W. 8th St.

The centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. everyday.

Last Wednesday, Trump issued a Presidential Disaster Declaration 55 days after the March 27 floods took a detrimental toll on countless South Texas families.

The historic storms brought record rainfall and flooding, with an initial summary from the National Weather Service in Brownsville indicating at least six deaths were caused either directly or indirectly by the event. That summary also stated “several hundred residents” were rescued, at least 1,000 buildings were flooded, and at least 1,000 vehicles were abandoned.
