BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Five people are in critical condition after a three-vehicle accident occured on a state highway near SpaceX, according to the Brownsville Fire Department.
The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. Thursday off State Highway 4 heading towards Boca Chica.
Assistant Chief Eugenio Cardenas with the Brownsville Fire Department says the three vehicles involved in the accident were a 18-wheeler, a SUV and a pick-up truck.
The 18-wheeler and the pick-up truck were severely damaged.
According to Cardenas, two passengers in the truck were trapped inside the vehicle and needed to be extracted by the fire department.
Two passengers of the pick-up truck suffered fractured legs, Cardenas adds.
A total of five people were transported in critical condition.
Additional details were not provided on the drivers or passengers of the SUV or 18-wheeler.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of the accident.
