Five indicted in Brownsville 2023 murder case

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Five people have been indicted in connection with a deadly shooting in December 2023.

Adam Isaiah Gallegos, 17, Sergio Eduardo De La Garza, 17, Jose Luis De La Garza, 18, Jorge Angel Gallegos, 21, and Ethan Gallegos, 20, were indicted on Aug. 20, 2025, according to Cameron County records.

Adam Isaiah Gallegos, Sergio Eduardo De La Garza, and Jose Luis De La Garza are all charged with murder in connection with the death of 22-year-old Adam Hunter Garza.

All five males are also facing a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity, a first-degree felony.

An arraignment hearing for Sergio Eduardo De La Garza is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 and at 9 a.m. for Jose Luis De La Garza and Ethan Gallegos.

Adam Isaiah Gallegos and Jorge Angel Gallegos will have status hearings at 9 a.m. on Oct. 27.

All defendants go before Judge Gloria M. Rincones at the 445th District Court.

Background

On Dec. 23, 2023, authorities responded to a homicide at the 3200 block of E. 28th Street. According to police, the victim, later identified as Adam Hunter Garza, had arranged to meet with an individual to sell them vape products.

During that meet-up, Garza was robbed, shot, and killed outside his residence, a spokesperson for the Brownsville Police Department said at the time.

On April 16, 2025, authorities served an arrest warrant to the main suspect in the case, who was later identified to be a juvenile.

The suspect is being processed on charges of first-degree murder and engaging in organized criminal activity. Luna added that investigators recovered the vehicle used during the time of the crime.

On the same day, 21-year-old Jorge Angel Gallegos was also charged with murder and engaging in organized criminal activity, while incarcerated for unrelated charges.

On April 17, the investigation led to the arrest of a second minor located in Harlingen.

On April 29, 19-year-old Ethan Gallegos and another juvenile suspect were arrested in connection to the case.
