“ICE Homeland Security Investigations is the lead investigative agency in today’s enforcement action,” according to a statement released by Homeland Security Investigations. “HSI is being assisted by several federal, state and local partners located in the region. No additional details are being released at this time; the criminal investigation remains ongoing.”

Castillo couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Attorney Rick Salinas of Mission, who represents Castillo, said he’d just been retained and didn’t know any details.

“It’s just way too early to start passing judgment on what he did or didn’t do,” Salinas said.

Rodolfo Castillo, 55, of McAllen joined the City Commission in 2022, when he won a special election to replace City Commissioner Tania Ramirez.

Castillo and his wife own Oro Ropa Usada, which sells used clothing, according to documents filed with the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.

Voters re-elected Castillo in 2023, when he won a full, four-year term.

Castillo represents District 4, which covers southwest McAllen.
