A restaurant known as “The Last Great Hamburger Stand” is opening its first location in the Rio Grande Valley.
Fatburger will be opening a Pharr location at 309 W. Nolana Loop, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation registration record filed last week.
Construction is scheduled to begin June 2, with the record noting a completion date of Dec. 31.
The project has an estimated cost of $1.5 million.
The Los Angeles-based business was founded in 1947 after Lovie Yancey began a business with her husband: a three-stool hamburger stand called Mr. Fatburger. After the couple split in 1952, Yancey dropped the “Mr.” from the name “and Fatburger became her own.”
“She worked 18-hour days and made Fatburger into an icon; with celebrities frequenting The Last Great Hamburger Stand, we started our journey to becoming a household name,” the restaurant’s website stated.
Pharr’s location will mark Fatburger’s 10th location in Texas.
