MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A suspect accused of a fatal overnight shooting in rural Mission was killed in an officer-involved shooting, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office announced.
At approximately 1:47 a.m., deputies responded to the 2400 block of Venecia Street regarding a man lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release from HCSO.
At the scene, the responding deputies attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 36-year-old Felipe Mancilla.
A preliminary investigation has indicated the motive was drug-related, the release states.
At 9:02 a.m., Sheriff Eddie Guerra provided an update on social media, stating that investigators had identified the suspect and SWAT team members were executing a search warrant at the 1000 block of Pine Street in Alton.
At the scene, the suspect opened fire, injuring a deputy. Deputies returned fire and killed the suspect, Sheriff Guerra stated in the update.
The deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The identity of the suspect has not been released.
