MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An expansion project is underway for the South Texas College Cooper Center for Performing Arts.
STC leaders and staff celebrated the beginning of the project with a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning.
Improvements on the project will allow STC to better serve students in the arts, including theatre, dance, and music.
"We're expanding in an area that has been neglected, and that's in the arts," said the President of South Texas College, Ricardo Solis.
Solis says the center will be twice the size, allowing students to practice and rehearse as needed.
STC plans to welcome other organizations to utilize the facility for rehearsal, including the Valley Symphony Orchestra.
"We're going to have the latest technology so our students can have the technology applications to it and at the same time have art, music, dance in every way possible to complement their higher education experience," Solis said.
The expansion project is anticipated to be completed by next summer.
