Enhanced safety and reliability: HCSO transitions to new weapon

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office announced its transition to its new duty weapon for its deputies.

According to a news release, the change is made by a thorough evaluation process conducted by the HCSO department's firearms instructors.

The instructors look over the mechanical function, maintenance requirements, performance and overall reliability of the new firearm.

Increased rain chances going into the weekend

Following the evaluation process, the HCSO department's firearms instructors selected the HK VP9 AIF, with red dot sights that help enhance both accuracy and officer safety in high-stress situations, the release added.

According to the release, as deputies are completing the training and qualification process, the feedback for the new weapon has been positive.

Deputies have reported feeling more confident and secure with the new system. The key factors of the weapon transition were factored in by enhanced safety features, superior reliability, and improved effectiveness for all personnel.
