Edinburg teen fatally shot cousin in head over 'missing chicken,' affidavit says

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Edinburg teenager has been jailed after allegedly killing his cousin over "missing chicken," an affidavit revealed.

Alberto Quintana, 17, was arrested on a charge of murder, records show.

At 6:04 p.m. May 19, an Edinburg police officer responded to the Enclave Apartments at the 600 block of S. Pin Oak Road. When he arrived, he made contact with two men outside the apartment, identified as Quintana and his 58-year-old father.

The officer asked who had shot, which Quintana responded by admitting to shooting a man that was inside, later identified as Alvi Aristegui Puyg, the document details.

Quintana's father told police that he was in an argument with Puyg, who was his cousin, over "some chicken that was missing," the affidavit stated.

The father said he told Puyg that it was not worth fighting over two packs of chicken, and that he pays for everything anyway. At this point, Quintana warned Puyg to stop being so aggressive, his father said.

"[Quintana's father] will testify that he heard a loud bang right next to his right ear and realized his son Alberto Quintana had shot Alvi," the affidavit stated.

The man said that Puyg fell, and he believes he died instantly. the affidavit states that Quintana shot Puyg in the head with a pistol

Quintana was then placed under arrest for murder. On Monday, Quintana was arraigned and his bond was set at $1.5 million.
