EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Unofficial final election results show that Daniel 'Dan' Diaz has been reelected to the Edinburg City Council, Place One.
Diaz received 7,103 votes with 100% precincts reporting, according to unofficial Hidalgo County election results.
Diaz will serve alongside the new mayor, Omar Ochoa.
The race for Edinburg City Council, Place Two, is heading to a runoff election.
Edinburg Councilmember Place One
Unofficial final results show that Daniel 'Dan' Diaz has been re-elected to the Edinburg City Council, Place One, claiming 7,103 votes against Ismael 'Smiley' Martinez, who received 4,218 votes.
Diaz was first elected as an Edinburg city council member in 2021.
After serving a full term in office, Diaz announced his intention to seek re-election in July.
In addition to his experience as a city council member, Diaz has also served as a combat Veteran, a registered nurse, a paramedic, and a business owner.
"Each of those experiences taught me the value of service, sacrifice, and putting others first," Diaz announced in his official campaign video. "That's what I have carried with me as your city councilman for Place One."
Edinburg Councilmember Place Two
Unofficial final election results show that the Edinburg City Council, Place Two race is heading to a runoff election.
Incumbent Jason De Leon will challenge Eddie Badillo and Moises Segovia in the runoff.
De Leon received 42.87% of the votes, totaling 4,799, with all precincts reporting.
Segovia received 37.5% of the votes, and Badillo with 19.63% of the votes.
