EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg Police Department will host a special presentation alongside police officers from the Burleson Police Department on Monday.

The presentation called “Dangers of Social Media: What Every Parent Needs to Know" will educate parents about the dangers children face on social media.

Authorities say the increased use of platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, and even video games such as Roblox, is making kids and teenagers more vulnerable online.

"Some parents are not even aware of the different apps or even virtual reality platforms that are out there for kids to play," said Officer Sarah Rodriguez with the Edinburg Police Department Mental Health Unit. "We want to give them as much information as far about the different platforms that are out there, the trends right now that are happening with predators, but also to give them tips on how to open up that dialogue so they can have a family conversation with their kids, to where they are going to provide support and comfort."

The presentation will be held on Monday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Edinburg Cultural Arts Center located at 315 W. McIntyre St.
