EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A search is underway for a man who allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend, prompting an overnight shelter in place on Sunday at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Edinburg campus.
Edinburg police responded to the 800 block of W. University Dr. after midnight on Sunday.
At the scene, a woman reported being assaulted by her boyfriend twice, the first time near the 700 block of W. Schunior St., and a second time on N. 4th Ave.
The woman reported that during the second assault, her boyfriend threatened to kill her while being armed with a machete, according to police.
The UTRGV Police Department was notified of the report shortly after, prompting a temporary lockdown.
UTRGV sent out a shelter-in-place alert at 1 a.m. Sunday.
UTRGV Edinburg campus — Shelter in Place and Heavy Police Presence in the area of University and Sugar Rd from Edinburg Police Dept investigating an Aggravated Assault. Suspect is a male subject wearing white shirt over black shorts carrying a backpack possibly armed with a machete.
Police searched the surrounding areas, but have not located a suspect.
