EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man is in custody on charges of intoxication assault following a motorcycle accident that left a woman with major injuries, the Edinburg Police Department announced.

At approximately 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Edinburg police responded to a major accident at the 5500 block of South I-69C in the northbound lanes.
At the scene, authorities discovered that a BMW motorcycle, driven by 40-year-old Miguel Angel Garcia and a passenger, had crashed into the rear of a blue Ford SUV, according to a news release from Edinburg PD.
The impact of the crash caused both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle to be ejected.
The motorcycle slid across the roadway, hit a guardrail and ricocheted back onto the roadway, where it was subsequently hit by a white Chevrolet Malibu.

All occupants of the Ford SUV and the Chevrolet Malibu were unharmed, police reported.
The motorcycle passenger suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Garcia, the driver of the motorcycle, was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.
This is an ongoing investigation.
