EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Edinburg police arrested a man in connection to threats made on individuals near the intersection of Jackson Road and University Drive Monday night.

Police said that around 11 p.m., they responded to multiple emergency calls regarding a man, now identified as Moises Isai Rodriguez, 19, who was displaying a gun.

Moises Isai Rodriguez was arrested on April 1 and was charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, manufacture/delivery of cocaine, and evading arrest with a prior conviction. Photo courtesy of Edinburg Police Department.

Officers began a search for Rodriguez. Not long after, police dispatch received additional reports of a man who matched Rodriguez's description threatening individuals with a firearm at the 2700 block of W. University Dr.

Officers located Rodriguez, who immediately fled the scene.

While in pursuit, Rodriguez attempted to evade capture by jumping into a canal and fleeing eastbound. During the escape, Rodriguez was allegedly observed discarding various objects.

Officers chased and apprehended him, recovering a loaded Spingfield Armory 9mm pistol, cocaine with packaging paraphernalia, and other narcotics, according to police.

Nine victims reported to police that they were threatened by Rodriguez. Following the investigation, he was charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, manufacture/delivery of cocaine, and evading arrest with a prior conviction.

An in-depth investigation showed Rodriguez was also allegedly responsible for a previous incident in January 2024 that led to a lockdown at Edinburg Regional Hospital.

Because of the seriousness of the offenses and the threat posed to public safety, the Edinburg Police Department has coordinated with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which has agreed to review the case for potential federal prosecution.
