Edinburg police accepting applications for new teen police academy

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg Police Department is welcoming a new class to the Edinburg Teen Police Academy.

The academy is being held for teens interested in a career in law enforcement. The times available for the sessions are as follows:

  • Session 1: From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 16 through June 20.  
  • Session 2: From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 23 through June 27.

The week-long program will allow participants to learn core police functions such as patrol, special operations and crime scene investigations.

Police academy students are policing through hands-on activities at the CPL Derek Hernandez Police Training Facility, located at 1309 N. Doolittle Road.

The teen police academy is free and open to high school students in the City of Edinburg who are between the ages of 14 and 17.

Students are expected to attend all classes. The deadline to apply is June 10 and limited spots are available.
