EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Edinburg police says a Facebook post claiming one of their officers is missing is a hoax.
In their own post on the social media site, the department says the claims an officer named “Carolyo Lynch” is missing and that her car was found with her daughter inside are bogus.
The post, which is riddled with spelling errors, claims a silver alert has been issued.
Edinburg police say this is all part of a nationwide hoax.

"This story is a nationwide hoax and has no truth to it. If you come across it on your feed, please do not share or spread misinformation," Edinburg police said.
An online search for "Carolyn Lynch missing" brings up several articles from different news outlets from across the country also describing the post a scam.
Many of these scam post news outlets have reported, such as Nexstar affiliate Fox40, include a similarity such an ‘Officer Katie Cunningham’ or ‘Officer Carolyn Lynch.’
Police remind the public to keep a look out on scam post and always fact check the information before sharing misinformation through social media.
