Edinburg North student detained with unloaded firearm, district confirms

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District police officers recovered an unloaded firearm from a student's backpack at Edinburg North High School.

Edinburg CISD district officials stated in a news release that the district police department and school administrators received an anonymous tip Tuesday morning regarding a student carrying a weapon on school grounds.

The student was immediately detained, and Edinburg PD was called to the scene to arrest the minor.

In the release, district officials stated, "At no point was there a threat to students or staff, and all individuals on campus remained safe and secure."

Ediburg CISD police and administration followed established safety protocol and responded swiftly following the anonymous tip.
