EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Edinburg man has been sentenced on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office.
Jorge Aguilar Garcia, 44, was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The case was initiated in September 2021, when the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office was dispatched about an indecency with a child involving Garcia.
An investigation revealed that Garcia sexually abused a 9-year-old child and used a fake name every time he contacted the minor and the minor's family.

The case was then reclassified from child indecency to an aggravated sexual assault of a child.
"This defendant engaged in horrific conduct, and the lengthy sentence he received will help make our community a safer place while he is locked up," said Hidalgo County District Attorney Terry Palacios.
Garcia will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
