EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Edinburg man was sentenced to prison for murdering his girlfriend, records show.
Adan Roberto Ruiz Jr. pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of murder in the death of his girlfriend, Yvonne Salas, records show.
As part of a plea agreement, Ruiz was sentenced to 20 years in state prison and given a jail credit of 2.69 years.
On Dec. 7, 2021, Edinburg police responded to an unresponsive woman who had been assaulted. Ruiz initially called 911 stating that he arrived home and found Salas unresponsive, an affidavit stated.
Officers arrived and found Salas dead in the home, lying on her back facing up with her arms spread to the side. An initial autopsy report indicated that Salas died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and body, previous ValleyCentral reports stated.
Detectives determined that Ruiz was the last person to see Salas, and noted that he had cleaned himself up prior to the officers' arrival, the document stated.
The indictment stated that Ruiz caused Salas' death by striking her with his hand.
Ruiz decided to plea guilty the day his trial was set to begin.
