SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Edinburg man was pronounced dead following a call for a distressed swimmer was made, Cameron County Park Ranger Chief Horacio Zamora announced.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, Cameron County Park Rangers responded to approximately one mile north of Edwin King Atwood Park, also known as County Beach Access number 5, regarding a swimmer in distress.
At the scene, Park Rangers saw County Beach Patrol Lifeguards carrying an unconscious man, later identified as Alberto Lorenzo Galvan of Edinburg.
According to a news release from the Cameron County Park Rangers, lifeguards immediately initiated CPR efforts on Galvan before being transported by a Cameron County Park Ranger Emergency Police Vehicle to the entrance of Beach Access 5.
South Padre Island EMS immediately took over medical assessment and treatment and transported Galvan to Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville, where he was later pronounced dead, the release added.
