The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 42-year-old man on charges that he attacked his 86-year-old father.
In a news release, officials said Francisco Coronado Jr. has been charged with injury to elderly with serious bodily injury.
On Tuesday, deputies responded to the 6500 block of Sharp Road in rural San Carlos at approximately 10:33 p.m. for a welfare check where family members said Francisco Coronado Jr. assaulted his father, Francisco Coronado Sr., who was found in the backyard “bleeding from his head, nose, and mouth.”
“He appeared disoriented but stated he had been attacked,” the release said.
The man was transported to a hospital for treatment while Francisco Coronado Jr. had fled.
“Medical staff later informed deputies that the victim had suffered head trauma, along with a broken nose, cheekbone, and jaw as a result of the assault,” the release stated. “He was intubated following surgery and remains in critical condition.”
Investigators, who were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Task Force, found Francisco Coronado Jr. and arrested him.
“During questioning, he confessed to assaulting his father,” the release stated.
