EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A father who allegedly left his toddler home alone overnight has been arrested after the child was found wandering in an Edinburg neighborhood.
Alex Hernandez was arrested Sunday and will be charged with abandoning and endangering a child, a second-degree felony.
The arrest comes after officers were dispatched to the Fort Hood Avenue and Fort Brown Avenue area just before 8 a.m. this morning. Someone called 911 to report that a child was found walking alone in the neighborhood, authorities say.
When police arrived at the area, they located the child and began searching the area for their parents.
About an hour after the initial call, Hernanded arrived and identified himself as the toddler's father.
He told officers that he had forgotten the child in his apartment. After a brief investigation, police concluded that the toddler had been alone overnight.
Hernandez is 26 years old and a resident of Edinburg.
This case remains under investigation, according to Edinburg police.
