Edinburg biker faces intoxication assault, bond set at $70K

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The motorcyclist was issued a $70,000 bond following a crash that left a woman with major injuries.

Miguel Angel Garcia, 40, was scheduled for an arraignment at 2:30 p.m. at the Edinburg Municipal Court, where he was formally charged with intoxication assault.

He was issued a total bond of $70,000.

Background

At approximately 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Edinburg police responded to a major accident at the 5500 block of South I-69C in the northbound lanes.

At the scene, authorities discovered that a BMW motorcycle, driven by Garcia and a passenger, had crashed into the rear of a blue Ford SUV, according to a news release from Edinburg PD.

The impact of the crash caused both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle to be ejected.

The motorcycle slid across the roadway, hit a guardrail and ricocheted back onto the roadway before being hit by a white Chevrolet Malibu.

All occupants of the Ford SUV and the Chevrolet Malibu were unharmed, police reported.

The motorcycle passenger suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

This is an ongoing investigation.
