Edinburg begins paid internship program for UTRGV students

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), along with UTRGV and the City of Edinburg 2040 Initiative, held a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony on Friday.

This initiative, called "Bank on INT!", is a paid internship program that connects higher education and the financial industry.

"Students now have the opportunity to take part in an internship program where they would gain real-world experience, while at the same time, getting their degree at UTRGV. Now, before they graduate, they're able to take on this kind of experience while getting paid, and as they graduate from college, hopefully, they'll stay here in the financial sector," said Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr.

There is no cost to the City or EEDC for the internships, since each partner bank is directly funding the student positions.
