MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral)—The National Butterfly Center in Mission held its annual Earth Day event to raise awareness of eco-friendly activities.
The event was held on Saturday at the National Butterfly Center, located at 3333 Butterfly Park Drive.
Although every day is Earth Day, employees and workers at the center offered several earth-friendly activities, as well as big discounts on native plants for those looking to create their butterfly garden in their own backyard.
Stephanie Lopez, Executive Director for the National Butterfly Center, told ValleyCentral, she is happy to see the community come together during events such as these and see multiple organizations such as U.S. Fish and Wildlife, American Forest and Native Plant Society of Texas to help teach the community about wildlife in the Valley.
"I would love for them to come here, learn more about the Rio Grande Valley, what organisms, what species, what everything we have to offer," Lopez said.
The butterfly center is open every day with an admission fee of $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.
