EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District held a news conference Tuesday to recruit students into its migrant program.

The Migrant Neighborhood Identification and Recruitment Program is designed to identify those students who are returning to the district after working in the agriculture industry with their families.

"We provide very specific services to keep them up to par because they have an interruption in their education," Patricio Escamilla, Migrant Education Program Coordinator said. "They either enroll late because of agricultural [responsibilities] and they withdraw early because of obligations with agricultural [responsibilities], so the fact that they have their education interrupted, they're at a disadvantage" said Escamilla.

This is a vital program for students who do have to work outside of school. It allows them to be introduced to resources that they otherwise are not able to access.
